The One Young World (OYW) Summit brings together 1,500 young thought leaders from around the world to work together towards inspiring and leading change.  2013 saw the event taking place in Africa for the first time, with the technical support of the Gearhouse Group of Companies in Johannesburg.

1,250 leaders between the ages of 18-30 years came together under the mentorship of International Councillors such as Boris Becker, Kofi Annan, Francois Pienaar, Jamie Oliver, Sir Bob Geldof, Ryk Neethling, Arianna Huffington, Sir Richard Branson, Lily Cole and Maria Ramos, amongst others. The annual Summits aim to equip young Ambassadors to accelerate positive change in the world through their own initiatives or from within their places of employment. One Young World claims to bring together more global participants than any other youth-focused event, with the exception of the Olympic Games. The 2013 event saw involvement from 190 countries.

Sandton Convention Centre’s onsite technical supplier, INHOUSE Venue Technical Management (IVTM), under the guidance of IVTM General Manager, Adriaan Gerber, was afforded the opportunity to work together with BrandFuel UK and Havas World Wide to present the event within the SCC. After 24 months of working with Technical Director for OYW, Innes Compton, and Scenic Manager, Linda Grogan; the team combined the resources of INHOUSE VTM and the Gearhouse Group of Companies to successfully produce the technical aspects of both the One Young World Opening Ceremony held at FNB Soccer City and the One Young World Summit held in the Sandton Convention Centre.

Adriaan summed up the team effort, “The event was technically demanding, to say the least, and with all the different technologies deployed together, it was a real adventure for the Group. Innes persuaded each and every department to extend their delivery “above and beyond” and the team managed to pull it off with the usual flair. It was a real honor to work with Innes and the BrandFuel team and seeing the whole group perform together at such a high level was incredible. Being sub-30 myself, it was a great experience to see people in my own age bracket enjoy an event which I have been working on for 24 months.” 

According to Innes, the INHOUSE VTM and the rest of the Gearhouse Group of Companies, delivered technical design, project management, audio, audio visual, lighting, rigging, structures, set, LED screens, recording, broadcasting and distribution services to exceptional standards. 

“It has been a really good experience for us to work with this professional team” he said.
